St. Petersburg, Florida was treated to two days of fine art and fine craft during The CraftArt Festival 2014 on November 22 and 23, 2014. The Festival was hosted by Florida CraftArt Gallery at 501 Central Ave. St. Petersburg, Florida formerly known as the Florida Craftsmen Gallery. The gallery has just finished a renovation and was teaming with collectors. For disclosure, the artist of this website and the author of this article, Dan Strothers Fine Art is a member of Florida CraftArt and has wooden cabinetry and artwork on exhibition at the gallery at the time of this show.
On Saturday, the weather was overcast and in the low 70’s, not postcard weather for St. Pete in November, but the crowd was quite good. The art was better than I have ever seen it with new crafts and great quality that I have not witnessed before. An artist who worked copper into maritime scenes, a welder who made clocks and funny sculptures and a wood turner stand out as particularly skilled in their discipline.
The fine art galleries up and down Central Ave. were also open with their share of collectors browsing at all the art. The restaurants and boutiques were all in full swing. Downtown St. Petersburg was alive with the arts!
